Hector Elizondo出生於1936年12月22日。 十歲的他被傳奇人物W.C. Handy(1873-1958)發掘，從此Hector 開始和W.C. Handy出現在地方廣播和電視上。 1954年，Hector考取了紐約城市大學，希望能成為一名歷史老師。 1955年他第一次結婚，生了一個兒子，但是在1957年便離了婚。 1962-1963年間他再次結婚，取了一位年輕的秘書。Hector繼續演出，後來在Actor's Studio遇見了演員 carolee Campbell 。她出演了NBC電視台的肥皂劇《The Doctors》。他們於1969年結合，之後就一直幸福美滿。 Hector從舞台表演成功轉型到出演電影，從1970年到今他出演了超過80部電影和電視電影。導演Garry Marshall把Hector當作自己的幸運星，他出演了Garry的12部電影，包括和Richard Gere出演《American Gigolo (1980)》，和Richard Gere Julia Roberts共同出演《Pretty Woman (1990)》，並且憑藉這部電影Hector獲得了金球獎最佳男配角的提名。
當然，有Julia Roberts和Richard Gerend的電影不能沒有Hector，他們後來又共同合作了電影《Runaway Bride (1999)》，這部電影票房很好。
Hector的兒子Rodd Elizondo是一位老師，他還有一個孫女。Hector的愛好包括劍道，吉他和唱歌，還有他仍然還會玩小手鼓。
