摘要：
錢鍾書先生在英國牛津大學期間完成的學位論文《十七、十八世紀英國文學中的中國》,學界一直很少有人論及。此項研究不僅深刻地揭示出了這個時期英國的"中國熱"背後所隱含的意識形態意味,而且也開創了中國學者在"異國形象"研究範疇的先河,其在錢鍾書先生的學術歷程中有著極為特殊的價值和意義

作者簡介
錢鍾書(1910．11．21-1998年12月19日)字默存，號槐聚。江蘇無錫人。早年就讀於教會辦的蘇州桃塢中學和無錫仁中學。1933年於清華大學外國語文系畢業後，在上海光華大學任教。1935年與楊絳結婚，同赴英國留學。1937年畢業於英國牛津大學，獲副博士學位。又赴法國巴黎大學進修法國文學。1938年秋歸國，先後任昆明西南聯大外文系教授、湖南藍田國立師範學院英文系主任。1941年回家探親時，因淪陷而羈居上海，寫了長篇小說《圍城》和短篇小說集《人.獸.鬼》。《圍城》已有英、法、德、俄、日、西語譯本。散文大都收入《寫在人生邊上》—書。《談藝錄》是一部具有開創性的中西比較詩論。與此同時，他在上海暨南大學、中央圖書館和清華大學執教或任職。1953年後，在北京大學文學研究所任研究員。所著多卷本《管錐編》，對中國著名的經史子古籍進行考釋，並從中西文化和文學的比較上闡發、辨析。曾任中國社會科學院副院長。
