美國農業部農業研究局(USDA-ARS)訊息,美國最近的一項研究表明藍漿果皮在控制膽固醇含量上很有功效。USDA-ARS的研究人員發現,給倉鼠餵以膽固醇極高的食物,但同時餵以凍乾的兔眼藍漿果皮做補充,可以降低這些倉血漿中的膽固醇水平。此外,研究人員還發現,食用藍漿果來降低膽固醇的倉鼠比食用降脂藥的倉鼠生長得更好。

Arecentstudyaffirmsthebenefitsofblueberryskinsincontrollingcholesterol.ResearchersattheUSDepartmentofAgricultureAgriculturalResearchService(USDA-ARS)foundthatfeedinghamstersadietextremelyhighincholesterol,butsupplementedwithfreeze-driedskinsofrabbiteyeblueberries,loweredtheplasmacholesterollevelinblueberry-supplementedhamsters. 

Inaddition,theresearchersalsofoundthathamsterseatingtheblueberry-enhancedfoodfaredbetterthanhamstersfedthehigh-cholesteroldietaugmentedwiththelipid-loweringdrugciprofibrate.Theresultsmaybelinkedtoconstituentsinblueberryskinsthatcanactivateaproteininvolvedinthebreakdownandimportoffats,accordingtoAgnesRimando,achemistworkingwithARS.Amongtheseconstituentsareresveratrolandpterostilbene,whichhavebeencitedfortheirantioxidantproperties.
