Writing for unit 2 10

When I read the paragraph 17, I found that this section is a little difficult. The first sentence is worth to research for us. The word “for”, in the beginning of this sentence, means because. After the second dash, the author uses two complex grammars, there are subjunctive and pluperfect. Because of these grammars difficult points, I nearly can’t understand this sentence. So I think I need to learn English grammar harder. The next sentence is a little long, but not difficult. “As a matter of fact” means “in fact”. Then “lay my cards right on the table” puzzled me. After hard thinking, I know, the meaning of that is “speak direct”. In this sentence the author also uses a classical pattern “not only…but also”. The last sentence is also a long sentence. In “all he wanted to know was the time or directions”, I find a problem, the author can write that sentence like this “he wanted to know the time or directions.” But why she adds the “all” and “was”. In my opinion, the author writes these two words is good for him to represent his feeling, the stranger just want to know time or directors, but the author also tell the stranger she is so marvelous. The “Real Live Published Poet” which does the author deliberately capitalizes the first letters to accentuate her pride in being a published poet.

The 18th paragraph only has one sentence. This sentence means “it’s really fortunate for everyone that I eventually calmed down, though it took me a period of time (otherwise, everyone would be detained long enough to be told about the news that I was the Real Live Published Poet)”. Here the author talks in a very humorous tone.
