英國當地時間12月13號晚上，英國近兩千萬電視觀眾觀看了ITV的熱門電視選秀節目TheXFactor的決賽，來自北英格蘭南謝爾茲（SouthShields）的18歲學生喬·麥可德里（JoeMcElderry）最終奪魁，並贏得一百萬英鎊的唱片契約。來自北英格蘭的喬·麥可德里以其清純的嗓音和靦腆溫和的性格贏得數以百萬計英國電視觀眾的青睞，在決賽前，已經成為最被看好的贏家。在周日晚上的決賽中，喬·麥可德里與來自埃塞克斯的選手奧利·莫爾斯（OllyMurs）競爭最後的選秀桂冠和百萬英鎊的唱片契約。他倆分別演唱了即將作為聖誕單曲發行的歌TheClimb（攀登）。最終，在所有的一千萬最後投票中，18歲的喬贏得了將近三分之二的票數，而成為第6屆TheXFactor冠軍。據悉，現年19歲的McElderry已於2010年7月底正式公開自己的“同志”身份。
今年（2011年）1月7日上映的《納尼亞傳奇3：黎明踏浪號》的主題曲《SomeoneWakeMeUp》即是由JoeMcElderry獻唱的。
