ACLS美國學術團體協會（American Council of Learned Societies，簡稱：ACLS）
簡介
ACLSACLS,成立於1919年，是一家非營利機構，在國際學術聯盟（Union Académique Internationale，UAI）中代表美國鼓勵與支持通過協作研究與出版來促進研究的學術合作，這些出版物來自UAI成員的分支機構，內容涉及語言學、考古學、歷史學，以及行為科學、政治科學與社會科學等。ACLS目前擁有68個學術團體會員，其會員資格對機構有一定的限制。

使命
ACLSACLS的章程規定了其使命為：促進人文科學與相關社會科學所有領域中的人文研究，並保持與加強美國國內本學科學術團體間的關係。
作為美國人文科學獎學金的傑出代表，ACLS開發與管理了為數眾多的特別項目，這些項目為常規的，個人學者，以及美國國家人文科學與社會科學獎學金提供服務。ACLS最主要的成就是對人文科學與相關社會科學的研究進行資助與支持。其他的主要活動包括對研究工具的準備，研究結果的出版等。《美國國家傳記》（The American National Biography）是其中著名的項目之一。此外，還包括為激勵研究而籌劃委員會與會議。ACLS還對語言的發展作出貢獻，如：語言培訓資料，邀請國際學術會議到美國召開，對區域研究的發展，創立美國國家圖書館顧問委員會，中學課程的開發與教師培訓等。

出版項目
ACLSACLS指導了對出版物需求的調查，建立了出版服務以指導學者們利用費用較低的途徑進行研究，並通過工作資助項目與直接出版對學者進行幫助。ACLS委員會策劃並創立了《寶鑑》（speculum）、《思想史雜誌》（Journal of the History of Ideas ）等雜誌，這些雜誌可持續為獎學金提供資助。在ACLS出版物中，最著名的是1921年開始出版的使用廣泛的參考書《美國傳記字典》（The Dictionary of American Biography）與1999年開始出版的《美國國家傳記》（The American National Biography）及其電子版（2000年）。此外，還有收錄了有關古今重要科學家文章的《科學傳記字典》（The Dictionary of Scientific Biography）。其處於第三位的參考書是在1989年編纂的《中世紀字典》（The Dictionary of the Middle Ages）與簡明版《中世紀：學生百科全書》（The Middle Ages: An Encyclopedia for Students）。其他主要由ACLS資助的出版物還有《威廉·詹姆斯著作》（The Works of William James），《威廉·詹姆斯信件》（The Correspondence of William James ）與《查爾斯·達爾文信件》（The Correspondence of Charles Darwin）的準備工作與連續出版等。
學術交流
ACLS隨著計算機與新技術在人文科學與社會科學中的廣泛套用，ACLS作為主要角色，幫助學者們探索新技術在其研究領域中的套用效果。1964年起，ACLS開發了一個新項目，以獎勵在人文科學研究中運用新的與優秀的計算機技術。ACLS還與學者們一道尋找套用計算機高速運算能力的特別途徑，來獲取滿足學者傳統需要的更好的研究工具，如參考書目，索引，以及用語索引等。1984－1987年，ACLS還開設了學術交流與技術辦公室，總部設在美國首都華盛頓。
