創作背景
《The Hills》由Illangelo和Mano負責製作工作，Illangelo負責歌曲的錄製、編排以及混音工作。歌曲在位於加拿大多倫多的Abel's Crib錄音室完成錄製 。在2015年3月的SXSW音樂節被首次現場表演時，歌曲被命名為《Mood Music》 ；而歌曲名稱“The Hills”和橋段部分的歌詞借鑑了1977年由韋斯·克雷文執導的恐怖電影《隔山有眼》，部分內容是關於威肯在歌曲發行前的一年時間內在洛杉磯所經歷的文化衝突 。

歌曲鑑賞
歌曲是一次對男女間欲望、藥物和名利三者的深思 。歌曲刺耳的弦樂聲和粗俗的歌詞，會使初次欣賞者感到些許的不和諧。然而對於熟悉威肯風格者而言，歌曲的不同點在於其結尾方式：在最後的和弦逐漸消失時出現了女聲，溫柔而平靜，給聽者以搖籃曲的感覺 。而歌曲中的恐怖電影特有的尖叫聲，聽起來更像是威肯的混音專輯《Thursday》中的歌曲 。如恐怖電影和暴雨般的電子元素加強了威肯對虛無之物的感慨 。

歌曲的音樂錄影帶由格蘭特·辛格執導拍攝，於2015年5月27日首播。視頻的開始為一處車禍現場，威肯從倒掛著的車門中緩緩出現。清醒之後的他沿著昏暗的街道行走，而他的兩位女乘客則在一旁哭泣著，試圖得到他的反應。然而他卻對這發生的一切都產生麻木。隨後流血受傷的他進入到了一處荒涼的廢棄豪宅。他走上了螺旋樓梯，最終到達一處被紅光所照射的房間。房間內，兩位女性在一張床上。而一位年老者則坐在威肯的跟前，失望地觀望著他 。
