獎項特色
該屆葛萊美獎首次把全流媒發行的專輯和單曲納入評獎考慮範圍，之前的規則要求參與評獎專輯或單曲必須有實體或數字發行才可，該次規則是學院首次將全流媒體發行音樂納入評獎範圍。這意味著2015年10月1日至2016年9月30日僅在流媒體平台發行的專輯和音樂有資格提名參與第59界葛萊美獎項的角逐。
其他的評選規則更改分別是：
•評審參與評選的獎項從“20個普通獎項+4個年度獎項”變成“15個普通獎項+4個年度獎項”。
•年度新人獎項不再要求必須有完整版專輯，但一張唱片最少不能低於5首歌。累計出版作品不超過30首歌或者3張專輯。
•“最佳藍調專輯”將拆分成“最佳傳統藍調專輯”和“最佳當代藍調專輯”。
•“最佳說唱/演唱表演”取代“最佳說唱/演唱合作”。

阿黛爾獲獎後照片獎項幕後
•阿黛爾成為格萊美歷史上第一位兩次橫掃通類三大獎項（年度專輯、年度製作、年度歌曲）的藝人 。
•阿黛爾在演唱《Fast love》致敬喬治·麥可時，由於背景音樂起調失誤，導致她全程跑調，在唱完第一段後，她不得不中止了表演，待調音結束後重新演唱 。
•Chance the Rapper是首位獲得最佳新人獎的黑人說唱歌手 。
•二十一名飛行員獲得最佳流行樂隊/組合獎，高興的脫了褲子上台領獎 。

Lady Gaga與金屬樂隊獎項評析
從該屆格萊美繼續力捧阿黛爾這一點來講，其實也再度證明這個獎項偏保守的一面，或者說是注重安全第一。《25》不如《21》，從音樂的前衛性上不如碧昂絲的《Lemonade》。當然，這也就是格萊美，因為它要的還是安全和保險，尤其是綜合類這樣的獎項上。2016年也確實不是美國流行音樂的大年，尤其是對比新人提名，就可以發現今年的新人提名，遠遠不及2015年競爭的那樣慘烈。最終Chance the Rapper獲得最佳新人，則可以說是既意外也不意外。意外的是嘻哈音樂人，已經整整18年沒拿到過這個獎，不意外的是Chance the Rapper的音樂特點，也決定了他更接近“格萊美”的標準。“格萊美”不是不喜歡嘻哈音樂，而是一直想等像Chance the Rapper這樣在“三觀”上沒毛病的嘻哈歌手。所以，今年就是他了。而去世的大衛·鮑威獲獎，也是“格萊美”的另一種人文關懷 。 （鳳凰網評）
一年一度的格萊美頒獎典禮也是頒獎季的重頭戲之一。第59屆格萊美頒獎典禮又恰逢這樣的時刻：新總統和他的移民政策餘波尚未消弭，多名傳奇音樂人的離去仍讓人悲痛。人們希冀這些複雜的現實、難以名狀的情緒，能在一場音樂界的聚會中獲得某種程度的抒發和折射。然而這一屆的格萊美頒獎典禮，並沒有交出一份讓人滿意的答卷。這場本該代表歐美音樂界最高水準的典禮，充滿了各種技術故障和演出“車禍”。與以往麥當娜、王子等藝人帶來的激動人心的表演相比，該屆典禮除了碧昂絲開唱奉獻的視覺盛宴，並沒有真正有感染力的演出。如果再苛刻一些，剔除碧昂絲的孕婦光環和華麗的全息投影，長達三個小時的典禮幾乎沒有奉獻真正直擊心靈的共情時刻 。 （南方周末評）

弗蘭克·奧申拒絕葛萊美獎
兩項葛萊美獎獲得者弗蘭克·奧申的專輯《blond》和 《ENDLESS》被媒體評為“葛萊美獎年度專輯獎最有力的競爭者”之一，然而他認為葛萊美獎的組委會對參與者很不尊重，於是拒絕向該屆葛萊美獎提交任何報名作品 。
