In paragraph one, I [was]interested in the first sentence, firstly, the author says surveying American eating patterns as well as get [getting] a handle on scholastic cheating are frustrating. I don’t know what the meaning of “get a handle is [is刪去] on “[”is]? From my reference book, it indicates [better: means] gain understanding or control of something, that [which] is to say, it is difficult for us to control scholastic cheating. secondly, as we all know that American streets are full of overweight folk as a result of the snack food industry, therefore ,we can safe to draw the conclusion that surveying American eating patterns is frustrating, but why the author was also frustrated when we face to the scholastic cheating. For my part, it is obvious that the following paragraphs will tell us this [the] reason.

In paragraph two, contrary to the author’ [s] opinion, most of students claim that most of them cheating [cheated] when they were younger, furthermore, some consider that it is not a big problem in the school. All in all, according to these answers from students we can see clearly that the author told us one of these reasons why face scholastic cheating was so frustrated.

In paragraph three, the author talks to some teachers, I think it is very considerate that get some different views of this point from the teacher. However, there are so many new words that I cannot understand the whole sentence totally. First of all, what is the meaning of “a very different picture”, and the following sentence also makes me amazed [amazed me]. as [As] far as I am concerned, the word “one” refers to “a very different picture”, and” [“] that shatters the myths about who cheats and why“ [”] is its attributive clause, the word “shatter” here means “damage or destroy a person’s beliefs, hopes, confidence .in [In] the second sentence, I pay [paid] more attention to the word “of” since it appears four times, finally, I knew it is omit [?] of the phrase of [“] it is a picture of [”]. However, it is worth thinking are [that or /] these words “habit, bud and flower”, they become verb in this sentence although they are used [as] noun. I surprised that its description is [their descriptions are] so vivid and imaginative. At the same time, I [was] also interested in the phrase of [:] take root, because it is the first time that I see [saw] them [it], and it means an idea, belief or custom become established on the basis of my English book.

From three paragraphs above, we knew some opinions of scholastic cheating from students and teachers respectively, in this paragraph, the author will tell us some efforts which [which刪去] school, teacher and psychologist did. on [On] the one hand , several schools try to give more open book exams to avoid cheating ,on the other hand ,teachers with [and] students hold seminars to discuss this cheating phenomenon, but why the cheating phenomenon still exist, psychologists point out the root of the problem did not deal with, however, what is the root of the cheating, the answer is the family education ,it is emphasized that children should develop enough self-esteem and sense of right and wrong to make failure [conquer failure] and overcome cheat at home. It is clear that children need more help from their parents rather than school or other institutions. similarly, there are some new words confused me, the phrase “cut down on “[”],I look them up in the dictionary, it refers to reduce the amount of something that you eat ,buy or use ,I think it is easy to understand it, in addition, in the second sentence , it is quite strange that the words” it is there”, I cannot understand why the author uses this phrase in this paragraph ,is it a emphasize or maybe other uses, I found it is hard to guess.

The paragraph shows us so many parents lose their responsibility which brings up [teach] child [to] do [be] an honest person that more and [more] children believe cheating is not a dishonest behavior. This theory from Patrick L. Daly which [who] is an old high school teacher in the Detroit attracted a lot of attention, I firmly agree with what he said. admittedly, the word “abdicating” play a very important [part] in this sentence, in the dictionary it means to refuse to be responsible for something, for example, the government has largely abdicated its responsibility in dealing with housing needs.

This paragraph continues to talk about parents responsibility, in order to detailed explain, the author cites a example from Young Jay Mulkey which [who] is a president of the American institute for character education in San Antonio, it is contradictory that parents angry because their children cheat on the exam while themselves cheating on expense accounts, this phenomenon drives children confused and trend to cheat frequently. As for me, [“] outrage” is a new word, but I suppose it meansto make someone feel very angry and shocked when I connect the text. in [In] addition, there is a business word” [“] expense account” in the last line, I knew it shows an account of business expenditures for which an employee will be reimbursed.

This paragraph assumes some most troubling situation in the future, those most gifted students cheating in order to get into a top school, probably, they are the worst offenders and will not be discover, nevertheless, why top students cheating on the exam? According to analysis [?] from psychologists there is a great deal of pressure from their parents; what is more, it is wrong about whether or not it real become themselves motives in the end. Moreover, the words “the ones” stop me in the second line, they appear again in the follow line, I have no idea to deal with this obstacle, but the last phrase “the most gifted student” in the former sentence gives me a hint, obviously, it is a reasonable explanation when I use this phrase instead of them, finally, I found a word” [“] presumably” is difficult for me, so I turn to the online dictionary for help, it stands for used to say that you think something is probably true.

The paragraph eight describes various kinds of school practices some feasible steps to control scholastic cheating when they face to increasingly severe situation. From this paragraph we can see clearly that plenty of polls show the fact of cheating situation in different schools; it is so serious that campus newspapers are full of this kind of articles. For example, the issues of “common sence [sense]” from Dartmouth College in last fall, and there are so many discussions hold in the universities even that the university of Illinois issues a pamphlet to describe some ingenious methods of cheating, these methods including written crib sheets, attached to cap visors and so on. However, it is not easy to solve these problems; even some students break into their school computers for the sake of change their grades, it is a hard work of school to prevent the computer hackers. In my opinion, it will not solve if we only rely on the school policy. It needs help from everyone. Last but not least, I cannot understand the meaning of the word “crib sheet”, the answer from my English book, it means a piece of paper on which a list of answers or information used dishonestly by a student during an examination.
