wrting for Unit 5 1-4

ten ten then

From the first paragraph, the author uses an example of date to cite the main idea of this paragraph. He lists four typical traits when we date with others we could concern. “The potential date” means the people will have a date with others. It is easily for me to find that people will prefer the good looks than [to]r characteristics. But when it comes to intelligent people, the result is not like that. They account the good looks as a superficial quality, since they think that good appearance can not indicate what qualifications a person have [has] only is “skin deep”.

When I read the next paragraph, I found the last sentence of this paragraph is a little difficult for me to understand. From the former part of this paragraph, I knew that looks has influence on our initial attraction. And it is accepted by many people around world. But why the author says “Good looks are great asset.” Does it mean people are like someone in the first sight who with good looks and it is his or her asset?

And, also, the last sentence of [this] paragraph stops me. There is “were to” in this sentence. It seems that the author misses something between “were” and “to”. At last I consult [consulted] to dictionary, and then I got the answer: used to show that something will happen in the future. So the author both means [means both] women and menare [delete can] can resist the appearance.
