接著主唱兼吉他手並且負責詞曲創作的John Rzeznik力圖改變風格，於1993年發行了第四張專輯「Superstar Carwash」，風評與銷售卻地獄般的糟糕。遭受天大打擊的Goo Goo Dolls重新思考在1995年推出反省作「A Boy Named Goo」，才扳回一成贏得許多搖滾電台的高度播放與支持。但隨著成功而來的不是喜悅卻是衝突與痛苦，首先因為前鼓手George Tutuska個人兼差太多而被兩兄弟開除，雖然新的鼓手Mike Malinin很快地就為樂團代來心的音樂生命力，可是跟隨成功而來的壓力，使得George Tutuska寫作的靈感窒礙不前。
此時所幸電影"X情人（City Of Angels)"邀請他們為其原聲帶寫作歌曲，這才解決了他們事業的危機。所譜寫演唱的「Iris」一曲，不僅為他們贏得1999年第41屆葛萊美音樂獎"年度唱片""最佳流行演唱團體""年度歌曲"等三項大獎提名，將Goo Goo Dolls的樂壇聲望與作品銷售數字提攜至頂端外，「Iris」一曲的製作人也是"Dizzy Up The Girl"此專輯的製作Rob Cavallo更以此獲得"年度最佳製作"大獎。
對於自1987年便已發表其首張同名專輯的Goo Goo Dolls而言，"Dizzy Up The Gril"其實已是Goo Goo Doll的第六張專輯，但卻是他們於1996年以"A Boy Named Goo"專輯（1995發行）首次在主流樂壇綻放光芒之後，令人期待近三年之久後於1998年9月發行的首張全新專輯。Goo Goo Dolls在此輯中的表現，很明顯地又比前作成熟進步不少，圓融地將各種不同性格--強硬中帶著溫柔、侵略中又帶有技巧，毫無間隙地凝聚成一首首精彩之作。因此，你可以在輯中同時聽到鏗鏘有力的吉他節奏與悠揚的小提琴旋律共存的抒情曲「Black Balloon」、活潑有力的流行曲「January Friend」，以及充滿爆發力又不失優雅的搖滾曲「Bullet Proof」。此輯不僅已在美國創下首批銷售達50萬張金唱片紀錄，發行至今亦已累積銷售近2百萬張。此亞洲版除了收錄「Iris」（#9）這首為電影所創的暢銷名曲，及Billboard流行榜#8名、Adult Top 40榜#3名單曲「Slide」外，還額外收錄其"A Boy Named Goo"專輯中的流行榜#5名、Modern Rock榜4周冠軍曲「Name」...
