Richie Sambora聲稱歌曲的靈感來自他正坐在他的豪華轎車裡時，注視著旁邊擁擠的街道上堆積了一些廢棄的紙箱，這時Richie的內心中充滿了巨大的負罪感，接著便和Jon Bon Jovi討論了這一事件，於是他們就完成了這一首"Hey God"。
