劇情簡介
海報一塊記載著外星生命軌跡的流星墜落到亞利桑那州的荒漠中後開始了進化。沒幾周，這些外星生命的形態就從單細胞的有機體進化到類鳥和類靈長的生物。外星生命的進化如此飛速，將會使得他們很快支配整個世界，並且導致人類的滅亡！
艾瑞是一個有些虛偽但很有才氣的科研人員，由於處於事業的低潮，只在亞利桑那州的一所大學教書，他的好友是研究地質的哈里。兩人一同發現了流星中蘊涵著的外星生命軌跡，艾瑞還認識到外星生命飛速進化對人類造成的威脅。但是兩人的研究剛開始沒多久，整個研究項目就被軍方的科學家接管了。
艾麗森是隸屬軍方的疾病控制中心研究員，她是一個極端保守的專業人士，卻在與艾瑞的接觸中墜入愛河，對軍方的忠心和對艾瑞的感情產生了衝突。艾瑞和哈里偷偷摸摸地蒐集軍方的數據，想要找到阻止外星生命控制世界的辦法，在熱心的救火隊實習隊員韋恩幫助下，他們最終設計出一個奇異的辦法，利用含有硫化硒的洗髮液（他們發現硒是外星人的毒藥）阻止了外星生命從亞利桑那州擴散出去。
