《記憶傳承與重構:論湯亭亭小說中族裔身份構建》將文化理論與媒介、歷史、意識形態結合，分析湯亭亭的文本中華裔男性身份構建問題。個體的身份構建取決於多種因素。從社會歷史背景、個人文化背景、種族特徵以及個體與社團的關係幾個方面入手，分析湯亭亭文本中這些線索是如何決定其小說人物的身份構建的，推而廣之，了解少數族裔男性身份構建中的種種關鍵因素。
