變種區分
本變種與原變種不同處在於植株全體密被黃色長剛毛。與“剛毛黃蜀葵（變種） Abelmoschus manihot (L.) Medicus var. pungens (Roxb.) Hochr.”相關的變種有：

Forrest采自騰衝附近的標本(Forrest 993)，據記載：草本，高1.5-2米，花黃色，花瓣基部深紫紅色，與剛毛黃蜀葵變種相似，但全株被剛毛，葉淺裂，裂片卵形，花較小，與剛毛黃蜀葵不同雲。作者雖未見到模式標本，但騰衝縣的標本，有尹文清1200，陳介445，盈江縣(與騰衝縣相連線)的標本有5910-110，經檢定均為剛毛黃蜀葵。由於Hibiscus forrestii的模式標本未見，暫記於此，待後考證。
