In the section 2, “sort of” made I stopped(stopped me). If we just catch a glimpse of it, perhaps the phrase “kind of” will run into our mind. But you read again carefully according to the sentence’s meaning, the key “various” is removed immediately. When we interpreted “kind of”, then, there were two mistakes of grammar. First, in front of the words is “some” that shows “many”, so “kind” should be replaced with “kinds”. Second, “need” that is noun should be instead of “needs” as well.
Finally I resorted to Cambridge dictionary. To quote an example, “it’s sort of silly, but I’d like a copy of the photograph.” From this sentence, obviously, we can undertake it that express “in a way” or “to some degree”.
Now I suddenly remembered a sentence that you are so sweet. Someone constantly praises others to use it like “you are so kind”. Maybe you are right, but you aren’t native. This like the words “nice people” in the passage, usually we’ll say “good person” instead of it. I don’t know clearly whether it’s native, but I want to say that it’s really strike my chord.
From paragraph seven to eight, we can clearly see that there are transitional paragraphs. The author either taking some examples for defining “what’s showoff”, or making a setup what kind of showoff is offensive. Then the following sections write orderly by these points classified in order to declare the main idea of the passage.
