date ten the

eThe mid-autumn day falls on 15th August of the Chinese lunar year. When the date arrives, family Members always gather and have a big celebrated dinner. At night, we eat moon cakes and pears while they appreciate the bright full moon. Kids like to sit around old people and listen to the various version of the legend about “Chang’e fly to the moon”. The most popular version is like this: there were once ten suns in the sky, and so the earth became very dry, and crops could not grow. People had no night-time to sleep. Among people, there was a young people-Houyi and Chang’e was busy at home. However their life was still difficult. One day Houyi met a Taoist when he was on the way home after finishing work. The Taoist gave Houyi a bottle of elixir and told him if they took the elixir, they could fly to the moon which is a heaven for living, and they could get a special bow to shut down nine suns in the sky. But Chang’e decided to take the elixir alone and fly to the moon. On 15th of August, Chang’e flew to the moon and had to stay on the moon forever. Houyi was very sad. He made moon cakes and prayed towards the moon and wished he could help Chang’e come back. People were moved by the actions of the young couple. They also made moon cakes and prayed Chang’e would come back.
