劇情簡介
約翰・Q・阿奇伯德（丹澤爾・華盛頓）是個工廠里的工人，他工作很賣命也
很顧家，可生活依然不富裕。為了養家餬口，妻子丹妮斯也要上班掙錢，夫妻倆
因忙碌而使感情日漸淡漠，婚姻幾近破裂。他們生活中唯一的亮點，就是9歲的兒
子麥可。
可不幸總是出其不意地降臨到苦命人的身上。一天，麥可突然昏到在棒球
賽場上，約翰・Q把他送到醫院後得知：兒子患有嚴重的先天性心臟病，需要進行
心臟移植手術才能保住性命。
心臟移植手術的費用非常昂貴，而約翰・Q的醫療保險遠不足以負擔15萬美金
的手術費。醫院的頭頭（安妮・海切）得知這個情況後，決定把麥可從等待移
植者的名單中剔除，除非約翰・Q能預付30%的手術費。此舉激怒了約翰・Q，在求
助於麥可的主治醫生特納（詹姆斯・伍茲）未果的情況下，他憤然持槍闖入了
醫院的急診室，綁架了幾位醫護人員和病人做人質，要求院方立刻為兒子動手術
。
然而事情並不像約翰・Q想像的那么簡單，面對他的不僅是一群無辜又需要護
理的人質，還有一個經驗豐富的談判家（羅伯特・杜瓦爾）和一個想要速戰速決
的警長（雷・利奧塔）。約翰・Q和警方的對峙還驚動了媒體，全市的大眾對這一
事態的發展都投以了極大的關注。他們的感情似乎更多傾向於違法者約翰・Q，因
為他是當今不近人情的醫療和保險制度的受害者。但大眾的同情並不能幫助約翰
・Q，他的前途到底如何呢？

幕後製作
影片竭盡所能讓情節一波三折，為劫持醫院人質提供了充分的道德依據。該片第
一幕基本是寫實的，客觀地反映出美國下層人民的生活和窘境；第二幕便進入驚
險片的格局，每個套路均在加劇觀眾的緊張感；到第三幕，基本上已毫無真實性
可言，劇情不斷峰迴路轉，有不少超越邏輯的地方，並竭盡煽情之能事。影片的
最後一組鏡頭乃最大的敗筆，編導顯然想升華到理論高度，但把政客和媒體評論
家的隻言片語用來壓陣，完全把該片看成了宣傳的工具。作為社會問題劇，該片
是徹頭徹尾的說教；但作為普通故事，它能引人入勝；作為政策宣傳，它也許可
算高明；但作為文藝作品，它的寓意太露骨、太缺乏說服力，手法太拘泥俗套。
