劇情介紹
黑武士和銀河帝國再度建造威力更強大、更堅不可破的“死星”，邪惡的勢力又再一次威脅莉亞公主所領導的反抗軍。
影片一開始韓索洛艦長被賈霸捉走囚禁起來。莉亞公主、C-3PO、R2-D2等人先後前去援救，但都失敗反而被賈霸捉住，最後在天行者路克的支援下，眾人才成功逃出。之後路克前往大師約達的住所，即將離世的約達告訴他一個令人震驚的事實：黑武士維達正是他的父親！儘管如此，路克仍重新加入反抗軍的行列，並準備攻打帝國軍新建的太空站。反抗軍一行人來到提供能源給太空站的衛星，但住在衛星上的人Ewoks並不友善，直到Ewoks族人誤將金光閃閃的C-3PO視為上帝後，雙方才合作。但反抗軍是否能一舉殲滅銀河帝國？路克又將如何面對父親黑武士？而路克、韓索洛與莉亞公主之間的三角戀愛又該如何解決？
幕後製作
“星球大戰”系列的第三集《傑迪的歸來》有著比前兩集更為緊張的情節，以更多令人眼花繚亂、讓觀眾喘不過氣來的特技給人造成一種影片是“表演視覺遊戲”的感覺，並使觀眾發揮豐富的想像力而隨著影片的生動畫面在廣闊的空間自由馳騁。雖然此片因過分強調特技而避開了劇中人物的感情描寫而招致批評，但在眾多的科幻片中仍是一部出色的作品。影片公映後取得了極為出色的票房成績。至今為止，它仍是美國電影史上最為賣座的十部影片之一。在1983年的第56屆奧斯卡上，此片獲得特別視覺效果成就獎。
花絮
·執導本片的理察·馬昆德是星戰系列電影中唯一的一位非美籍導演。
·大衛·林奇曾有機會執導本片，但他予以拒絕，因為他認為星戰系列是盧卡斯的專利。
·大衛·柯南伯格也曾有緣執導本片。
·片中反抗軍戰機上的標誌由藍色變為紅色，因為有礙於藍屏特效。
·本片導演最初人選是斯蒂文·史匹柏，但由於史匹柏是美國導演工會會員，而盧卡斯曾因《星球大戰第五集：帝國反擊戰》與導演工會產生爭執並決定退出，於是雙方的合作只好作罷。
·伊文·克什納在接受採訪時稱，理察·馬昆德並未全程執導本片，由於演員們對馬昆德頗有微辭，盧卡斯隨即接手，並由克什納作助理導演，當時盧卡斯同馬昆德的合作也很不愉快。
·赫特人賈巴所說語言源於印加語。
·賈巴的大型帳篷飛船在亞利桑那州的尤馬拍攝，影片拍攝因35000名冬粉的瘋狂探班而受阻，劇組不得不對外宣稱是在拍攝名為“Blue Harvest”的恐怖片，劇組人員的帽子和體恤上也都印上了相關標記，還加設了柵欄和24小時保全，然而即便如此，鐵桿影迷仍能乘虛而入，進入片場偷拍照片。
·片中原定有一段沙暴場景，但由於不太必要和難於拍攝而放棄。
