險：危險，艱難險阻；夷：平坦、平安。從險境中化成平安,比喻轉危為安。
夷有三種含意。 1，平坦，平安；2，破壞建築物（使之成為平地）例：夷為平地；3，滅掉，殺盡，例：夷族。 其中，在化險為夷中，這個夷字為第一解，既化險境為平安。
