拱門國家公園簡介
拱門國家公園（Arches National Park）它位於猶他州靠近摩押處，面積309平方公里，保存了包括世界知名的精緻拱門在內的超過2000座天然岩石拱門。園內最高處象峰海拔1753米。最初於1929年4月12日成為國家歷史遺蹟，1971年11月12日成為國家公園。自1970年，已有42座拱門因侵蝕作用而倒塌。
在1929年，此地成立國家紀念地，但至1971年國家公園才誕生。這裡是世界上最大的自然沙岩拱門集中地之一，光是編入目錄的就超過二千個，其中最小的只有3尺寬，最大的Landscape Arch則長達306尺。所有的石頭上更有著顏色對比非常強烈的紋理。石頭的成因為三億年前這裡曾是一片汪洋，海水消失以後又經過了很多年，鹽床和其它碎片擠壓成岩石並且越來越厚。之後，鹽床底部不敵上方的壓力而破碎，復經地殼隆起變動，加上風化侵蝕，一個個拱形石頭就形成了。直到今天，新的拱門仍持續製造中；反之，老拱門也在逐漸走向毀滅。
拱門國家公園公園裡來回48里的景觀道路連結所有壯麗的風景及各主要的拱門，
不過幾乎都是遠遠的看，想近看就得走一段不算短的路。如果時間不充裕，在此列出幾個筆者認為一定要看的。平衡石(Balanced Rock)就在路旁邊，不走過去也看得很清楚，明信片裡也找得到喔。幽雅拱門(Delicate Arch)應該是最有名的，猶他州標誌上的圖案就是它，而且還是少數隻殘留拱形的石頭；不過想走到旁邊可不簡單，來回長達3里(4.8公里)。南窗和北窗這兩個拱門是連成一線的，看起來好象一對眼睛，從停車場只能看見一個，走過去來回只有1.1公里。

形成原因
天然拱門因拱門國家公園位於鹽層上方，加上不同程度的侵蝕，而形成許多不同的拱門。
約三億年前，這種鹽層曾是海洋。海水消失的幾百萬年後，鹽層被空氣和水中的渣滓所復蓋，並和其它雜物擠壓成岩石。後經地殼隆起以及天然風化，成為如今的拱門。

旅遊指南
開放時間
拱門國家公園全年開放，不過聖誕節當天訪客中心不開門。
Arches National Park is open year-round, but the visitor center is not open on Christmas Day.
住宿
公園裡只有露營區，想住旅館的遊客，南邊5里處的Moab有不少旅社和餐廳。走小徑請當心，有些路段直接踩在石頭上，小心滑倒和迷路。

到公園只有一個出入口：I-70轉191號公路往南。

最佳觀賞時間
通常被認為清晨或黃昏是最好的觀賞時間，因為太陽光的照射會使拱門呈深橙色。
