前美國西岸另類搖滾大團Grant Lee Buffalo首腦人物，是一位唱作俱佳的全方位音樂人。創作中挾帶著濃厚的低沉憂鬱風格，可歸類為哀淒體系（Sad-core）派別。Grant Lee Phillips，曾是 Grant Lee Buffalo樂隊的領軍人物。在取得一系列成績後離開樂隊做自己的音樂。2001年第一張專輯《Mobilize》曾獲得廣泛讚譽，2004年發表了第二張專輯《Virginia Creeper》（維吉尼亞印記）。Phillips曾被 《Rolling Stone》選為最佳男歌手。他的歌曲大多敘述故事，揭示人性的悲劇、社會的不公以及過去的時代與目前的現實。這些歌曲就象Phillip說的：緩慢但堅韌的藤蔓，編織在一起，延展攀爬直訴心靈。他的音樂獲得廣泛認可，Entertainment Weekly（娛樂周刊） 稱 Phillips 是"不可戰勝的" ；而 The Chicago Tribune（芝加哥講壇） 稱Phillips"依然以流行的曲調保持了大師的觸覺。"
