劇情簡介
麥克（布魯斯·威利斯）是著名兒童心裡學家，卻也有始終未能治癒的患者，甚至因此遭到槍殺，這名少年隨後也飲槍自斃。這給麥克帶來很大心裡陰影，一年後他找到另一個症狀很像這名患者的男孩柯爾（海利·喬·奧斯蒙），並耐心的做起了他的醫生。

在這部恐怖的心理電影中，8歲男孩科爾無法擺脫內心深處一個可怕的秘密，那就是藏在他體內的魔鬼。那些好像是來自地獄深處的魔鬼向他提出了許多問題，並帶給他許多超自然的能力，科爾對他們的造訪感到非常恐懼，對於自己擁有的超能力又感到非常困惑，他不敢把自己的痛苦告訴別人，最後只能求助於兒童心理學專家馬爾科姆博士(布魯斯威利飾)，博士竭力去調查關於科爾擁有的超自然能力的真相，並力圖幫助他擺脫，結果把自己也陷了進去，遇到了更多可怕而又無法解釋的事情，博士可以幫助小科爾度過難關嗎？

麥爾康醫生是一名傑出的兒童家庭心理學者，幫助過不少問題兒童走回正路，也因此獲得市政府的表揚。不料，一名接受過麥爾康醫生治療，但未成功的青少年卻闖入麥爾康醫生家中，槍傷醫生後，再舉槍自盡。
一年後，麥爾康醫生再度面臨一件與自盡青少年相似的病例。醫生決定再試一次，幫助這名叫做柯爾的小男生。柯爾擁有陰陽眼，長久以來飽受鬼魂的困擾，不時會見到死去的靈魂，讓他十分害怕。
麥爾康醫生對柯爾伸出援手，卻不為柯爾所接受，因為柯爾認定沒有人可以幫助他脫離現狀。在麥爾康醫生不斷的堅持下，終於柯爾逐漸心防，讓醫生了解自己的問題，也慢慢地接受他的建議。在治療柯爾的同時，麥爾康醫生髮現自己的婚狀況出現問題，他的太太不但冷落他，而且似乎有了外遇。於是麥爾康同時面對工作上與婚姻上的兩個難題。
柯爾在醫生的開導陪伴下逐漸接受自己擁有陰陽眼的事實，就在整件事似大功告成、功德圓滿之際，麥爾康醫生卻有一個驚人的發現。

費城有個九歲小男孩生活在一個單親媽媽的環境裡，他自稱能見到死人。他的心理醫生在一年前曾經遭到他以前一個治療失敗的病人的槍擊，因此發誓要盡力幫助這個孩子。在小孩的幫助下，他解開了一個後媽下毒害死小女孩的疑案。但真正的驚訝出現在影片結尾，當醫生完全信賴男孩的話後，他發現自己跟妻子的關係出現微妙的變化，最終意識到自己所存在的環境。

幕後製作
