背景
費爾南多·波因波因的父親也是一位演員，他的母親是一個美國人。他的祖父來自西班牙的馬略卡島。波因是六個孩子中的第二個。他原來的名字是羅納爾德，費爾南多本來是他哥哥的名字。他的父親1951年死於狂犬病。
波因在小時候就曾有過一些小的演出。波因的父親死後他成為家裡最主要的掙錢者，因此他放棄了他的學業。1968年12月他與一個女演員結婚。當時的菲律賓總統費迪南·馬科斯和他的夫人伊梅爾達·馬科斯出席了他們的婚禮。他們兩人沒有自己的孩子，但收養了一個女兒。雖然波因非常有名，但他的私生活很少為人所知。2004年2月在總統競選中他承認還有一個婚外的兒子。
演員生涯
波因放棄學業後來到電影界，他一開始只是一個跑腿，後來他開始獲得上演的機會。他一開始的鏡頭是作為替身。14歲時他第一次演一個重要角色，但這個角色並不很成功。1957年他主演的一部電影為他帶來了突破。
他的主要角色一般是代表貧窮沒落人民的英雄。此外他還導演了九部電影。
1961年他建立了一個自己的電影製作廠。此後他還創辦了其它幾個製作廠。1963年他和其他著名演員一起反抗黑社會對電影界的敲詐勒索。1965年他主演了一部關於菲律賓人和美國人聯合起來反抗日本人的電影。這部電影被看做是最有影響的菲律賓電影。它使波因正式成為一個影星。
他獲得了多枚菲律賓最佳主角的獎賞。在菲律賓他享有影王的名聲，他的電影往往吸引許多觀眾。
總統競選
在2004年菲律賓大選中，費爾南多·波因是團結菲律賓人聯盟（KNP）的選手。通過他的電影生涯他是一位大家都很尊敬的人物，他的福利事業雖然未被發表，但也是眾所周知的。他的選民對象主要是他電影中所代表的窮的、下層的人民。他說他將要解決菲律賓大量下層人民的問題。
2003年12月波因同意參加競選，他是2004年競選中最主要的反對黨選手。有人說他是在他的朋友的請求下才同意參加競選的，但也有人說當他看到聚集在一起支持他的人後他非常激情地參加競選。
波因參加競選面臨的一個大問題是他的國籍是否允許他參加競選的問題。這個問題最後由最高法院決定。雖然波因是在菲律賓出生的，但反對他的律師認為他不符合菲律賓人的資格，因為他是一個私生子，因此他應該隨他的母親持美國國籍。他們還認為他的父親也不是菲律賓人，因為據說他父親是一個西班牙人。最高法院最後以8:5票（一票棄權）決定他可以參加競選。
在政治上他的對手責備他受其它興趣組織的利用。最後他獲9,158,999票，贏手格洛麗亞·馬卡帕加爾·阿羅約獲9,674,597票。他對選舉的結果提出抗議。
逝世
12月11日晚在一次他的電影公司的集會上波因說他頭暈，他被送入醫院。醫生診斷他獲中風，陷入昏迷狀態。他的大腦淤血，加上多個器官失效。許多他的崇拜者聚集在醫院門前。他於是2004年12月14日中午12:01逝世，他昏迷後沒有再甦醒。
