In the paragraph 1, the word “immunity” means an act exempting someone. So “in their own immunity to advertising” means these people could make decision of buying things by themselves. And they never are affected by the advertising. In the next sentence, the word “consumer land” is an amusing term used to describe the consumer society. The phrase “inhabitants of consumer land” refers to the consumers. The expression “masses of” means a lot of people or things. The people who believe that advertising play only a minor supporting role always believe advertising is childish, dumb, a bunch of lies.

In the 2nd paragraph, the things advertisers know better are the influence of advertising are so strong. The word “ads” refers to “advertising. From the sentence “a logical conclusion is that advertising works below the level of conscious awareness and it works even on those who claim immunity to its message we can get the force of ads is mysterious and strong. It can influence you when you are unconscious even if you claim immunity to its message. In the last sentence of this paragraph, the phrase “all but” means “all except”.

And the claim “we will give you four miles per gallon more in your car than any other brand” means: out gasoline will enable you to drive four miles farther for each gallon of gasoline in your car than any other brand.
