Dilated Peoples作為一隊地下說唱組合，Dilated People在The Platform發行前，就已經在西岸的地下圈吸引了不少眼球。2000年這張處子作是在期盼中發行，Rakaa解釋到專輯名中所謂的“平台”就是他們才藝的交匯點，另一層意義則代表未來事業的基石。

Dilated Peoples西海岸地下名團，成立於1992年，成員為DJ Babu，Evidence和Rakaa Iriscience。 1999年Dilated Peoples就被主流唱片公司Capitol看中，2000年Dilated Peoples在Capitol發行了他們的首張專輯The Platform，這張專輯裡沒有Gangsta，沒有女人，沒有毒品，Dilated Peoples試圖讓一切回到根源，事實上Dilated Peoples的確做到了。除此之外，Capitol巨大的感召力也幫了他們不小的忙，Dilated Peoples在自己的首張專輯中就邀請到了B-Real和Aceyalone等西海岸傳奇巨星，在Capitol和眾多明星的幫助下，這張The Platform一度排在Billboard 200的74位，這個成績對於一個地下團體來說已經相當不容易了。2001年Dilated Peoples趁熱打鐵發行了他們的第2張專輯Expansion Team，這是歌迷眼中Dilated Peoples的最佳專輯，這一次Dilated Peoples找來了更多的明星，DJ Premier，Da Beatminerz，?uestlove，The Alchemist等超級製作人加上Guru，Black Thought，Defari等大師級MC，Expansion Team真是想不大賣都難，Billboard 200 當年排列到第36位，Dilated Peoples是全球名團。
